Job Vacancy For Tower Crane Operator


ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Abide by stipulated workplace safety and health requirements for the operation of tower cranes.

• Conduct pre-start, daily, and routine inspections of the crane and report any defects or unsafe conditions immediately.

• Interpret and adhere to hand signals, radio communications, and instructions from authorized riggers and supervisors during lifting operations.

• Ensure all lifting equipment, slings, shackles, hooks, and accessories are inspected and fit for purpose before use.

• Maintain accurate records of crane inspections, operational checks, maintenance requirements, and lifting activities.

• Ensure strict enforcement of filling of risk assessment form in the logbook provided before commencement of any job.

• Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily tower crane inspection activities to support plant availability.

• Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and grappling devices.

• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities in order to prevent overload.

• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors, problems, or defects.

• Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to support plant availability and planned maintenance activities.

• Report all accidents and incidents, particularly near misses, and participate in the investigation process.


Qualification Required & Experience


Education & Qualification

• Mechanical Engineering Technician Part II, Motor Vehicle Technician Part II, or equivalent from a recognized institution.

• Mineral Commission certification as Mobile or Tower Crane Operator is an added advantage.


Experience

• Minimum of 1-3 years working experience operating 20 tone tower cranes in a mining environment, specifically within a processing plant.


Knowledge & Skills

• Good understanding of crane operating signals.

• Ability to inspect equipment, structures, and materials to identify defects or problems.

• Strong safety focus, including reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses and participating in investigations.

• Good interpersonal and human relations skills with the ability to work with people from diverse cultures.

• Strong work ethic, physical energy, and ability to work long hours while maintaining quality standards.
